A project exploring habitable planets and setting up seed banks to secure our future. This character is a cold weather mountain rescue at one of these banks. I was inspired by news articles about the Sherpa in Nepal. I wanted to infuse some cultural details and because this character is from Tibet I added a patch with a symbol from Tengrism. The idea being that many different cultures work together.

Initial thumbnails! Because of the cold mountain climate I wanted to concentrate on skiing clothing and add climber details ontop of it. Some of my influence for the costumes came from movies like Alien and Avatar, but also the artist Moebius. For me these influences give it a believable and fun look.

Chosen design

I picked it because of the poncho-jacket, which gave the costume a nice silhouette. Having another layer of clothing above already warm clothing also felt fitting for another planet! I added a hard surface detail on it which I later decided would be a sort of thermal regulator.

I built the headset in Blender to solve a lot of the design from all angles. I based it around ski-goggles and military head gear.

At first I wanted high saturation on the visor but it felt a bit too sporty, so I opted for a more toned down color. Something that doesn’t compete with the rest of the color palette.
