Visual Identity of Frogsong
One of my key responsibilities was to develop and maintain the graphical art style of our games and of the company. This is visible in many of the promotional images, the art direction and concept art.
3 key words that I’ve used:
Creative
Bold
Adventurous
Promotional images from 3 of our in-house games.
D-Corp
For D-Corp I set out to find and refine a readable, fun and colorful art style. Creating all of the marketing and key art along with tons of Concept art for various assets!Part of the process included modelling the assets, which was fun for me to try and stay true to the concepts and sketches.
I really wanted us to be better at showing progress with the help of marketing art. Later in the project I set up a lot of templates for the other artists to work with, as well as giving feedback on both 3D assets and concepts.
My biggest challenge was always trying to keep it readable.
Dungeon Reset
Dungeon Reset was an internal pitch that got quite far. I wanted to channel all of my love for Death Metal, especially all of the cool covers, while still keeping the style as cute as in D-Corp. Spent a lot of time refining the main playable character, Necro Kid! There was going to be various customizations for the kid, which you can see in the key art.
I was alone as an artist and had quite free reins to do what I wanted.
River Towns
River Towns is the latest game from Frogsong. We set out to do something a bit different from the styles of Dungeon Reset and D-Corp, influenced by artists like Carl Larsson and Ivan Bilibin. The game is a sort of cozy city builder and requires a lot of buildings! So the most important thing for this project was trying to create distinct districts with their own architecture. Our team did an amazing job pulling it all together.
The project had be done fairly quick as well, within a 6 month period.
Spellsworn
Spellsworn is our dark fantasy PVP game which started development before I joined Frogsong. As a fan of the game, it was a blast to work on and adapt to a handpainted art style.
We were always talking about making a sequel and so I was tasked with brainstorming a new look. I wanted to expand our library of references and looked at a lot of religious art from different countries.
I am always asked to paint christmas cards and so I had an idea of creating cards for different seasons as well. Using the style of D-Corp, this became our signature art style.
